Tregaron Granny's Broth
Cawl Mamgu Tregaron
680g (1˝lb) Bacon
450g (1lb) Shin Beef
450g (1lb) Potatoes
225g (8oz) Parsnips
225g (8oz) Carrots
1 White Cabbage
1 Large Leek
˝ Small Swede
Oatmeal to thicken
Salt and Pepper, to taste
Place the bacon, beef and vegetables except the leek in a saucepan, cover with cold water, add salt and pepper, slowly bring to the boil and skim carefully.
Simmer gently for 2 - 2˝ hours.
Add the cut leek and enough oatmeal to thicken to the desired consistency.
Adjust the seasoning.
Serve hot with crusty bread.
